Producer-Led
Webinar Series
Planting new ideas, growing conservation

Tuesday, December 8
at NOON

Soil Health Partnership

This webinar features Jim Isermann of the Soil Health Partnership (SHP) as well as two farmers, Dan Roehrborn and Nick Klei, who participate both in the SHP and in DATCP’s Producer-Led Watershed Protection Grant program. The SHP has built a farmer-to-farmer network to explore the economic and environmental benefits and risks of soil health practices. SHP collects on-farm data to evaluate the impacts of soil health practices on the soil, the environment, and the farmer’s bottom line.

Dan and Nick will share their experiences working with SHP and what they’ve learned about various soil health practices so far. Jim will cover how to get involved and what SHP has learned through their data collection efforts.

Dan and Nick will close out the webinar by discussing their experiences working with the Sheboygan River Progressive Farmers producer-led group and how these two projects work together.
Watch for a Zoom link in your inbox next Monday afternoon!

Nitrogen Use Efficiency:
A Guide to Conducting Your Own Assessment

Are you interested in monitoring Nitrogen Use Efficiency (NUE) on your own fields? UW Discovery Farms has created a guide that will lead you through the process of conducting your own NUE study.  Calculating NUE can be relatively simple and offers insight into how N management can be altered in order to achieve economically optimum yields while reducing nutrient losses to the environment.

In the guide you will find 1) Things to consider when selecting NUE fields 2) How to set up a zero-N plot 3) Soil sampling requirements and recommendations 4) Best management practices for calibrating your yield monitor 5) Data collection and analysis responsibilities.

Wisconsin Wetland Association Videos

Are you curious about wetlands and what they do to help our communities?  A new suite of videos from Wisconsin Wetlands Association promotes the many benefits of wetlands and seeks to encourage and inspire more community-based wetland conservation work in Wisconsin.  To watch the videos and find out how you can use them to support conversations and programs that will improve the health of Wisconsin communities and natural resources, visit wisconsinwetlands.org/videos

Webinar Series for Counties

WI Land+Water and DATCP have started to develop a webinar series designed specifically for you and your conservation department.  The series is crafted to be watched either individually or incorporated into a committee agenda.  The webinars provide an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of conservation topics specific to local conservation programs in Wisconsin.  The first two webinars are:
  • Land and Water Resource Management (LWRM) Plans presented by Lisa Trumble, DATCP
  • Soil and Water Resource Management (SWRM) Grants presented by Susan Mockert, DATCP
They are posted on the WI Land+Water website at
http://wislandwatermedia.org/webinars/or you can watch the webinars on YouTube at: SWRM grants or LWRM plans. The webinars are less than ten minutes in length. WI Land+Water and DATCP plan to continue to develop short webinars on other relevant topics to continue to support local land and water conservation committees and departments.
