The areas in this location were seeded in late fall with sedge seed: porcupine sedge, bottlebrush sedge and fox sedge. Shear force was used as a protective layer in this approach to the lake.  The seed will grow in and cover all the matting in a couple of years.

In these two (above) "After" photos, biodegradable logs were placed all along the shoreline (yellow arrows) and planted with woolly fruit sedge; common lake sedge; pointed broom sedge; bottlebrush sedge; and fox sedge.

Most of the area in front and surrounding the Rain garden in the photo above, were planted with no mow grass.

2019-01 - Wisconsin River
Estimated Cost: $40,000.00
Completed: May, 2020

Root Wads were cut and placed on the property.  Most were roughly 10-12 feet in length not including the root wad.  Each one was chain sawed to a point for easier installation. Click on each photo to make it larger.

They were installed at the river's edge in October of 2019. Some were inserted horizontally and some were pushed in vertically. Once in place, they were secured.

Please note that the bag wall was not part of the original cost share design.  The homeowner wanted additional protection for the river bank and he and the contractor constructed the wall outside of the cost share program.  Native plantings were installed in the Summer of 2020 to complete the cost share portion of the project. See where those plantings were installed by clicking the PLANTINGS button.
