Healthy Lakes & Rivers Initiative Projects

DL LAKE
  • NATIVE PLANTINGS - Improve Wildlife Habitat, Natural Beauty and Privacy, and Slow Runoff.
Decades ago, soil was removed from the slope and has created a 22 x 18 foot pit, which is eroding and shows strong disturbance in the structure of the soil horizons.  Native planting practice would be implemented by planting into the pit in order to stabilize the soil. Plant suggestions are provided by Oneida County Land and Water Conservation Department. Note:  Soil bags for this project were NOT covered by the Healthy Lakes Grant and were installed by the Landowner.

RHINELANDER FLOWAGE
  • NATIVE PLANTINGS - Improve Wildlife Habitat, Natural Beauty and Privacy, and Slow Runoff.
Planting directly at the shoreline will be a restorative measure in areas where buckthorn shrubs were removed. New plants will be planted directly into existing vegetation. In the lawn area, the sod will be removed, then up to two inches of compost and a NET-FREE erosion control blanket will be added before planting into the new bed.

UPPER KAUBASHINE
  • NATIVE PLANTINGS - Improve Wildlife Habitat, Natural Beauty and Privacy, and Slow Runoff.
Native planting practice implemented on a 360 square foot area below the house.  Added two inches of weed–free compost and a net-free, erosion control blanket before planting. Plant suggestions for the native planting site, provided by Oneida County Land and Water Conservation Department.
